radio gagaBeen on the radio again today : Just for 45 minutes , and , quite nervous at first , but it got easier . . Again next Sunday , for an hour , and : It's entirely voluntary , and I would not accept payment even if it were offered . A regular slot seems to be beckoning , which would mean a lot to me . I have real , lifelong enthusiasm for radio , which I've never thought of as a poor relation to television . To me , Tony Blackburn is the greatest dj ever , but I don't try to be him or anyone else . I'm hopefully , gradually developing my own unique style , and I'll never broadcast anywhere other than on my local community station . Of course it's easy for radio dj's to labour under the assumption that everyone listening is enjoying a traditional , family Christmas , and boozy office parties and New Years Eve . Many will be , but it irritates me to hear dj's revelling too much in such stereotyped notions . I've sometimes enjoyed Christmas and New Year , more often not , but I'm no 'old scrooge' who hates that time of year or who resents others enjoying it : It is , or should be a very special time , but those who for whatever reasons - maybe because they're alone , or unwell , or who have too many unhappy memories of Christmas's past - don't relish it should not be made to feel like outcasts . I actually think it vulgar to play Christmassy records before December , or to post cards to arrive before about the 10th ~ But that's just me . My 'ex' , and her thieving , lying , feckless and fraudulent ex-husband used to get sentimentaly silly over Christmas , and I always , at that time felt awkward with her about not going gaga about it . My Father never made any secret of his dislike of Christmas , because he didn't enjoy it as a child . <- Last Page :: Next Page -> |
