The Invisible Shrinking Man

and disorder

Many people proudly state their belief that if anyone illegally enters their home , they have every right to do anything to them .

Would that include , if a desperate drug-addicted young women broke into a mans house , that he had the right to rape her ? - No . So neither should it include his having the right to chase intruders who have already left his house , and exact brutal , life-threatening revenge upon them .

Don't get me wrong , I hate amoral burglars , muggers etc . , and would not hesitate to do anything I could to disable anyone who was scarily intimidating or violating myself , or anyone . But I would not feel that I had the right to bash their head in within an inch of their life if they were running away .

But if only , in the UK , there were appropiately deterring sentences dealt out by the courts to violent and thieving , and other harmfully anti-social offenders . Taking any genuinely mitigating factors into account , but not being farcically , puerilically soft .
