Being of Use

Something happened today which might seem little or insignificant to most people but it meant a lot to me both professionally and personally. 

I've been working at my current job since September.  Even though I had high marks while I was going through my training course, actually applying what I have learned to the job has been difficult.  I have looked to my friends and colleges for advice and guidance on matters and while that is perfectly acceptable, I have always felt that I lacked the proper skills to actually perform my job well.

This morning a received a phone call from a friend of mine; he was having problems with a new project and wanted to ask for my advice.  After listening to his questions, I told him what I would do and I was even able to throw a couple of technical references in to back me up.  He called my a couple more times with a few more questions which I was able to answer.  It felt good to final feel like I was of use to someone.
